The brown alga kelp is one of the largest natural sources of iodine.
The kelp alga is considered to be a particularly nutritious food and is therefore often referred to as superfood. It is rich in vitamins, trace elements, minerals, polyunsaturated fatty acids and enzymes. Kelp contains a lot of iodine, which is important for the function of the thyroid and its metabolism. In the short term, the consumption of kelp can stimulate the thyroid and stimulate hormone production. This was shown in a four-week application study in 36 healthy volunteers in the USA. (Clark et al., 2003, in Endocrine Practice, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14583417 )
The thyroid produces numerous active substances that are significant for important metabolic processes.
Iodine also contributes to normal cognitive function, normal energy metabolism, normal functioning of the nervous system and the maintenance of normal skin.
