High-dose lysine in tablet form
If you are looking for high-dose L-lysine, Vitamintrend is the right place for you! This food supplement provides you with 1000mg L-lysine per tablet (1 tablet per day). The amino acid is present as L-lysine hydrochloride, which greatly improves water solubility and thus absorption and utilisation.
As a practical bulk pack, this product lasts for 240 days, thus about 8 months.
Essential amino acid
L-lysine is one of the essential amino acids that must be supplied to the body through food or food supplements, as the body cannot produce it itself. In addition, L-lysine is a proteinogenic amino acid, which means that it is needed in the body to build up proteins.
Function of L-lysine
First and foremost, lysine is needed for the formation of proteins, for example:
- structural proteins such as collagen
- proteins responsible for muscle mobility
- enzymes and hormones
- proteins in the blood (plasma proteins)
- Fibrinogen and thrombin (blood clotting factors)
- immunoglobulins
Lysine also plays a role in the cross-linking of collagen fibres and the formation of L-carnitine.
Lysine in food
Since lysine is a protein component, it is obvious that it is found especially in protein-rich foods. Lysine sources include both animal-based and plant foods. Particularly rich in lysine are fish (tuna, sardines), meat and poultry ( beef fillet, ham, chicken), eggs and dairy products (cheese, curd cheese) as well as soybeans, beans, chickpeas, oatmeal and buckwheat.
What does the addition "L-" mean?
Among the amino acids there are the L-amino acids and D-amino acids. As far as their chemical structure is concerned, these behave like image and mirror image. L- means that the amino group of the C-atom is to the left (levo), and D- that the amino group of the C-atom is to the right (dextro).
As a rule, only L-amino acids are of importance in biochemistry, as these are preferred by the organism.
However, D-amino acids also fulfil important functions. Examples are D-serine and D-aspartic acid, which are found in the nervous system.
