Glucosamine and chondroitin - good partners

Glucosamine is an amino sugar, i.e. a monosaccharide that has an amino group. It is naturally found in the human body and is found in cartilage, connective tissue and synovial fluid. As glucosamine HCl or glucosamine hydrochloride, it is particularly water-soluble and can therefore be easily absorbed.

Chemically speaking, chondroitin is not just a substance but a mixture of mucopolysaccharides, also called glycosaminoglycans, which have sulphate groups. It is found in the body in the joint cartilage.

Lubricant hyaluronic acid

Most people are familiar with hyaluronic acid, mainly in the context of cosmetic treatments, but it can do much more and is also a component of the body. It can be found wherever fluid plays an important role, e.g. in the skin and mucous membranes, the vitreous body of the eye, the intervertebral discs and the synovial fluid.
The reason for this is that hyaluronic acid can bind a lot of water - about 6 litres per gram.

The synovial fluid (also: synovia) has three functions in the joint: supplying the joint cartilage with nutrients, as a lubricant in the joint and as a shock absorber.
The main part of the synovial fluid consists of hyaluronic acid. It gives the fluid a slight viscosity, making it viscous. This is particularly beneficial for lubricating the joints so that they can move smoothly and there is less wear and tear. Due to its high water binding capacity and the fact that water is hardly compressible, the synovial fluid absorbs shocks, e.g. in the knee joint when walking, running or jumping, and thus protects the joint from injury.

Organic sulphur - building block of the body

Sulphur is primarily contained in the two sulphurous amino acids L-cysteine and L-methionine, which is why they also have a typical smell. Both cysteine and methionine are involved in the formation of the endogenous proteins, which have a variety of different functions. One of these functions is the formation of tissues such as muscles, tendons, cartilage and the connective tissue, but sulphur is also found in hair and nails.

Astaxanthin - the algae carotenoid

Astaxanthin belongs to the carotenoids and has strong antioxidant properties. Astaxanthin is extracted from alga Haematococcus pluvialis. It forms astaxanthin to protect against UV radiation and in cases of nutrient deficiency.
