Ashwagandha (also called winter cherry, botanical: Withania somnifera) is regarded as one of the most important plants in Ayurveda with numerous applications. Its properties are similar to those of ginseng in the Chinese health care.
Ashwagandha translates as "smell of horses", due to the penetrating odour of the root. Traditionally, horses are regarded as a symbol of strength and life force. Fact is that ashwagandha has many benefits according to previous research results.
Traditional application of ashwagandha
Ashwagandha has been known in Ayurveda ("knowledge of life") for 4000 years. In Ayurvedic scripts it is described as a rejuvenation agent. Ashwagandha is used in Ayurveda to balance out "vata"
